The carbon opportunity

We realised that digitalising the NHS is a ripe opportunity for making a real ecological impact. In 2020, it is estimated that the NHS produced 31 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, with patient and staff travel forming a whopping 15% of this figure. Non-medical equipment like the paper we use forms another 8%.

Reducing waste

Virtual Bones was built from the ground up with one goal in mind: reducing waste in the NHS. Whether that comes in the form of wasted time, paper, or energy, the ultimate result is treating patients while wasting less of our resources.

Where we get our energy

Like any digital service, it takes energy to power Virtual Bones. We are constantly exploring new ways to do that in a renewable way, including a move to using renewably powered server.

How we work

Even though we’re still a growing company, our internal policies reflect our commitment to sustainability. We rely on a digital-first communication model internally and with our suppliers, minimising our own travel emissions as well as those of the companies we work with.
