Net Zero

Less waste, by design.

Virtual Bones is committed to Net Zero emissions by 2040 across scopes 1, 2 and 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, a commitment made by the board on 15 June 2024.

The carbon opportunity

Digital care is a real carbon opportunity. In 2020 the NHS produced an estimated 31 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, with patient and staff travel around 15% of that and non-medical equipment such as paper around 8%. Reducing waste

Virtual Bones was built to reduce waste in the NHS, whether that is wasted time, paper or energy. Paper leaflets become QR codes. Phone calls back to the emergency department become complete referrals.

Where we get our energy

Like any digital service, Virtual Bones takes energy to run. We keep looking for ways to power it renewably, including renewably powered hosting.

How we work

We work digital-first, internally and with our suppliers, which keeps our own travel emissions and theirs low.
